The Discover Japan collection in Forza Horizon 6 is one of the biggest progression systems in the game. Instead of simply grinding races, the mode encourages you to explore the map, complete themed activities, discover hidden landmarks, and experiment with car upgrades across Japan.
Everything is tied to Japan Points, usually shortened to JP. As you earn more JP, your Stamp Level increases and unlocks new rewards automatically through the Collector’s Journal system.
For a lot of players, this becomes one of the most rewarding long-term activities in the game because nearly everything you do contributes toward progression in some way.
How the Discover Japan System Works
Your progress is tracked inside the Collector’s Journal found in the Campaign menu. Every completed activity adds Japan Points to your lifetime total.
As your JP total grows, you move through a series of Stamp Levels. Each level unlocks gifts that can include:
Credits
Cars
Cosmetic rewards
Barn Find rumors
Special collectibles
Exploration bonuses
The system constantly rewards exploration, so even small activities like discovering roads or trying new upgrade categories help push your progress forward.
All Discover Japan Stamp Levels
There are seven major Stamp tiers in total.
1. Visitor
This is the first major milestone and unlocks the Honda NSX-R GT Barn Find rumor.
2. Tourist
At this level, additional Barn Finds become available, including the Ford Sierra Cosworth and Toyota 2000GT.
3. Traveller / Traffic
This tier unlocks more hidden vehicles, including the Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R and Nissan PAO.
4. Pathfinder
Progression starts becoming more exploration-focused here, requiring a larger amount of JP from multiple activities.
5. Navigator
By this point, players usually need to complete photography challenges, road discovery, and Journal upgrade objectives consistently.
6. Adventurer
This tier rewards players who engage with nearly every Discover Japan activity category.
7. Master Explorer
The final progression tier. Reaching this level awards the Gold Stamp and marks full completion of the Discover Japan collection path.
Fastest Ways to Earn Japan Points
Some activities are far more efficient than others when it comes to farming JP quickly.
Street and Touge Races
The local street racing scene is one of the fastest sources of early progression. Winning newly discovered races can provide thousands of points fairly quickly.
Touge events are especially valuable because many of them also overlap with road discovery and exploration bonuses.
If you are just starting the collection grind, this is one of the best places to begin.
Complete All Horizon Stories
The Horizon Stories give huge JP rewards, especially if you fully complete them with 3-star ratings.
The returning Drift Club story is one of the easiest high-value chains to finish early if you already enjoy drifting.
Completing all four stories can provide over 8,000 JP total, making them one of the most efficient progression methods in the game.
Smash Regional Mascots
Regional mascots are hidden throughout the map along roadsides, towns, and scenic areas.
Destroying every mascot gives a massive bonus payout and also naturally helps with road discovery percentage.
Many players underestimate how valuable this activity is for fast progression.
Finish the Photography Challenges
The Discover Japan photography category is surprisingly important for leveling quickly.
There are 26 special photo targets spread across the map, including:
Temples
Murals
Neon districts
Tokyo Tower
Seasonal decorations
Famous landmarks like Kinkaku-ji
Some photos only appear during specific weather conditions, seasons, or times of day. If a location is missing, try changing seasons or revisiting later.
Complete Journal Car Upgrade Categories
One of the more unusual progression systems involves modifying cars to satisfy upgrade categories inside the Collection Journal.
There are dozens of required upgrade objectives, including things like:
Restrictor Plate upgrades
Supercharger CSC conversions
Rally engine swaps
Drift-focused tuning
Tire compound upgrades
This section rewards players who experiment with builds instead of only driving stock cars.
Many players finish these challenges using cheap donor cars rather than expensive hypercars.
Passive Ways to Earn JP
Not every reward requires active grinding.
You also gain smaller amounts of Japan Points from activities like:
Buying player houses
Installing garage layouts
Discovering roads
Unlocking radio stations
Completing Tokyo food delivery jobs
Exploring hidden areas
These bonuses add up over time, especially during free roam sessions.
How to Claim Discover Japan Rewards
A lot of players miss rewards simply because they forget to redeem them manually.
To claim your unlocked items:
Open the pause menu.
Go to the Campaign tab.
Open the Collector’s Journal.
Select the Discover Japan section.
Look for yellow present icons or notifications.
Redeem all available rewards.
If you suddenly unlock several Stamp Levels at once, you may have multiple presents waiting.
Final Tips for Faster Progression
The easiest way to level up quickly is to combine activities instead of focusing on only one objective at a time.
For example:
Drive while hunting mascots to also discover roads.
Use upgrade challenge cars during Street Races.
Take photos while exploring new regions.
Finish Horizon Stories between exploration sessions.
The Discover Japan collection is designed to reward variety. Players who mix exploration, racing, tuning, and collectibles usually progress much faster than players who only grind events repeatedly.
Once you start stacking activities together, the Japan Points come surprisingly fast, and the later Stamp rewards become much easier to unlock.
